THE HISTORY OF...
BRIDLE No. 06
Karin designed this bridle over 10 years ago, and it has since become one of the best-selling bridles in the world. Originally named HIGH JUMP, it is one of the bridle models Karin chose to bring into THE EQUEMIST. Now, this highly popular bridle has been upgraded and is proudly part of our OCTA CONCEPT.
MEXICAN NOSEBAND
EFFECTIVE NOSEBAND WHEN USED CORRECTLY
This bridle with a classic MEXICAN NOSEBAND has been reimagined with an extended nose plate design. We've added a cushion on the inside front and given the plate a soft "bend" around the nose bridge. The extended nose plate helps distribute pressure over a wider surface area, moving it to the sides for a more precise yet gentle effect.
A Mexican noseband can act as both a "gentle" and a sharper noseband, depending on how it is used. Originally designed for horses that "pull" against the rider's hand and attempt to evade the bit by opening their mouths, the nose plate applies mild pressure when the horse gapes, pressing against the bridge of the nose.
When properly positioned and fastened loosely, the Mexican noseband is among the gentlest options available. However, if it is placed too low, it can encourage unnatural head carriage and lead to a horse avoiding contact with the bit. The noseband is padded throughout to lie comfortably over the cheekbones, preventing chafing, and extends far enough back to stay clear of the eyes. The strap under the bit has a convex shape, allowing it to sit smoothly around the bit without pushing it upward into the mouth.
The OCTA symbol is proudly featured at the center of the noseband.
RECOMMENDED FOR:
MOUTH/TEETH PROBLEMS where you want to leave as much space as possible in the mouth without pressure.
HOT HORSES that pull against the rider’s hand.
Horses that need help with FRAMING.
CROSS-COUNTRY PHASE IN EVENTING where you can keep the airways completely clear while still having the effect of an Aachen strap.
PADDED IN ALL THE RIGHT PLACES
HEADPIECE that protects the TMJ
The headpiece of this bridle, like all our others, is softly padded along the ear. It features a small "tunnel" where the mane can comfortably fit, but most importantly, the headpiece includes a perfectly positioned cushion to protect the TMJ (temporomandibular joint), which, simply put, is the joint where the lower jaw attaches to the skull. It is considered the most sensitive joint in the horse’s body and can be compared to our temples.
COMMON PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH TMJ PAIN
- Head shaking
- Sensitive ears, head-shyness, reluctance to be bridled
- Tendency to place the tongue over the bit
- Tension in the neck
- Prefers to carry the head slightly tilted
The browband is easy to change but has a fixed position, so it cannot move up or down.
